In keeping with our aim to provide the highest of standards for our patients at Ayrton Veterinary Hospital we are pleased to inform our clients that we have recently upgraded our inhalation (gaseous) anaesthetic systems to use the most advanced type of anaesthetic. This new anaesthetic is called SEVOFLURANE and is the main anaesthetic used by many human hospitals today. Although the previous anaesthetic, known as isoflurane, was and still is a very good drug, the newer sevoflurane has several advantages. For the patient, your pet, it means a more rapid recovery from the inhaled anaesthetic and in many cases feeling less disoriented when going home. For the anaesthetist, the major advantage is that the depth of anaesthesia can be regulated more precisely, thus enabling a greater control of the anaesthetic procedure. This results in a smoother anaesthetic procedure with increased safety.
In addition to being an excellent anaesthetic for dogs and cats, sevoflurane is proving to be a superior anaesthetic for the smaller pets such as rabbits and chinchillas and birds. So all species benefit from the use of sevoflurane. The change to sevoflurane means that Ayrton Veterinary Centre is providing the most modern of anaesthetic agents and by doing so is ensuring your pet has the safest anaesthetic procedure possible.
