Alexa qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from Barony College, Dumfriesshire in 2008.
Originally from Selkirk in the Scotish Borders, Alexa was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm and so has always been surrounded by and enjoyed working with animals. Initially she gained a place at Aberdeen University to study Zoology, but after two years, realised that her preference was better suited to a more hands on and practical position and so she decided to change course to Veterinary Nursing.
Following qualification, she worked in a mixed veterinary centre in the Scottish Borders before moving to join Croft Veterinary Hospital, a referral and emergency small animal hospital in Northumberland. The experience that Alexa gained during her time in Northumberland was invaluable, but she was keen to continue her professional development back home in Scotland and so joined the team here at ‘Ayrton’ Hospital in 2010.
In particular Alexa enjoys Medical Nursing and in-patient care but would like to also develop her RVN Schedule 3 surgical skills in theatre and suturing. Alexa is our appointed nurse to ensure that our puppy socialisation classes run smoothly and are informative for clients. She will be attending the British Veterinary Small Animal Congress in Birmingham this year to continue her professional nursing development.
Outside work she enjoys hill hiking, spending time in the country with her dog Joey, going to live concerts and watching independent films. She also loves exploring new places and cultures.
