Animal Care Assistants

Mary Young

BSc

Mary Young BSc
Mary has always had an interest in animal welfare and to give herself a grounding to enable a career working with animals, she chose to go to Napier University, Edinburgh to study Animal Biology. Mary graduated in 2007 having obtained both a Diploma of Higher Education in Animal Biology and a BSc in Biological Studies.

Following her graduation, Mary obtained a position as Animal Technician with Charles River Laboratories, Tranent. During her time there, she gained her Home Office License and a great deal of knowledge concerning the welfare of animals. It was gaining this knowledge that prompted Mary to seek working in an environment where she could both use her knowledge and gain more experience of small animal care. Having completed work experience at school with a small animal practice in West Lothian, she felt that a veterinary environment would be ideally suited to her.

She is the Animal Care Assistant here at Ayrton and as such, ensures the smooth running of in-house patient service. Mary is currently studying for the Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Diploma and hopes to achieve the award early in 2013.

This additional study will not leave her much time but when she does relax, she loves spending time with her fiancé Scott, her friends, going to the cinema, shopping and being with her dog Jess and four Guinea Pigs (not necessarily in that order)
